A whopper of an overheard mobile phone conversation

Apropos my post the other day about overheard mobile conversations, tonight the Amateur Actress heard this from a nearby passenger on the 86 tram she was riding home from the city.

"Hi can you pick me up at the station, and by the way can you try and ring John, he's left a suicide note and he's not answering his phone and I totally think he might be dead."

!!!!

I can't even begin to express how I feel about that. And My One True Love can't believe I'm relaying it via my blog.

Oh dear! I really hope John was OK!

You hear some amazing conversations - I once heard a woman going on about having been pregnant 12 times, and not a single one fo the fathers would admit to it..

Fascinating!

I do wonder, however, if after the event they go their freinds - "This woman was listening to my conversations on the train today... you should have heard the stories I came up with - and seen her face!"

hehe!

Wow I don't even know what to say, except: So, did you buy a chocolate train?! And I love the new hoot! What color is his rearside?

gulp....!

Oh -and BTW... no suicide notes found here - just thought I'd say how lovely it was to see you the other day. Sorry I was so preoccupied with my new toys and wasn't the most attentive hostess in the world!

Egad mysterycreature, 12 children? I am speechless.

And Nikki, fear not, I was so distracted with the wonderful patterns and fabric that I com-PLETE-ly forgot to buy the bias tape maker! So I will have to come back.

Hi Christy, I'm glad you like the new Hoot! I have given him the same fabric on the reverse side, just to make sure he's as snuggly as he can be. I'm heading over to your blog now, hope to see you soon and thanks for the shout-out!

Oddly, I find it's the word "totally" that gives the quote its impact - by imparting tone and its utter disjunction with the content of the request. Amazing.

Welcome to the comments section, SoMH! I agree with you about "totally". I think I was more surprised that she started the sentence with "can you pick me up" before the actual, certainly more crucial in my book, information about John ....
